Cary Exhibition

At the Edges of the Day: Cultural Exchange between Cary, North Carolina and County Meath, Ireland At the Edges of the Day is an exhibition of photography by four photographers: Patrick Bartlett and Heath Clayton of Cary Photographic Artists in Cary, North Carolina; Andrew Kelly of Duleek Photo Group and Andrew Ellis of Navan Camera Club in County Meath, Ireland.

The exhibition explores the people, places, economy and culture of Sister Cities (Twinning) Cary, North Carolina and County Meath, Ireland as seen through the eyes of these photographers. Both communities have undergone tremendous population and economic growth.

The four photographers illuminate and illustrate this change in the people, land and culture. The term At The Edges of the Day is drawn from what photographers commonly call the best “lighting” to capture a subject.

Meath’s twinning with Cary, North Carolina originated in 2001. Initiated by a Meath-born business man, living and working in Cary, it gave rise to a dialogue between the two regions regarding local resources, initiatives that could bring economic growth and developing local business. Local authority representatives from both Meath and Cary have engaged in this exchange.

The Cultural Exchange (2008/09), involving local photographers, is the first civilian exchange between the two communities. The exhibition, to be shown in both Cary and Meath, offers the wider communities the opportunity to witness and contribute to this on-going dialogue.
The exhibition was shown at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center in Cary, North Carolina from February 26—March 25, 2009. The exhibition will be shown at the Solstice Arts Centre, Navan, Co. Meath from July 14—July 31, 2009.
